Scope of Work

A Fortune 500 financial institution selected Cummings Electrical to transform an existing structure into a high-performance, 500,000-square-foot Tier IV data center. The facility was designed to support mission-critical operations with a 28MW (2N+1) power architecture, converting 15kV utility service into 480V UPS and 415V data floor distribution. Electrical prefabrication—from duct banks to in-slab switchgear racks—was employed to accelerate the schedule and reduce labor costs without compromising quality.
Key infrastructure included 10 backup generators at 2.25MW each, six high-capacity UPS systems, and a Medium Voltage Main-Tie-Main system, all built to deliver uninterrupted performance. The electrical scope also included extensive coordination with manufacturers, engineers, and stakeholders to develop leveling documents that ensured compliance across every major equipment package.

Challenges & Solutions

The project's fast-paced nature, live loads, and evolving design phases required detailed planning and precise execution. Cummings managed over 20 subcontractors across fire alarm, grounding, security, IMCS, and equipment startup scopes while leading over 150 CEWA (Critical Electrical Work Authorization) procedures with zero incidents.
To accommodate added phases (0 and 1.5), the team deployed PDUs and remote power panels to expand capacity and ensure future-ready scalability. Prefabricating major components and close collaboration with the client helped maintain quality and performance standards despite schedule pressure and scope changes.
