Project Ray

WILMER, TX

Project Ray, a 1.35 million-square-foot solar manufacturing facility in Texas, is designed to produce 5 gigawatts annually. Cummings Electrical worked with the customer to successfully deliver power to Line 1 ahead of schedule, enabling critical production validation. This successful partnership allows the customer to set a new standard for renewable energy in the United States.

Scope of Work

Cummings Electrical delivered the full electrical scope for Project Ray, a 1.35 million-square-foot solar manufacturing facility in Wilmer, Texas. The facility was designed to produce 5 gigawatts of solar modules annually, marking the client’s first U.S. project. Cummings led all electrical work, adapting international voltage standards, integrating proprietary equipment, and coordinating with Gray Construction through fast-track delivery.
The team utilized advanced BIM/VDC design, prefabrication, and overhead busway systems to support rapid installation and long-term maintenance. Every element was executed to meet the client’s production goals while ensuring compliance with U.S. electrical codes and safety standards.

Challenges & Solutions

Navigating unfamiliar 380V/220V systems and evolving design requirements posed significant challenges. Frequent last-minute changes required Cummings to stay agile while keeping pace with the client’s urgent production deadlines. The team delivered power to Line 1 ahead of schedule, allowing the client to begin testing and calibrating key manufacturing equipment. This early activation was crucial for validating production processes, training staff, and demonstrating readiness to investors under tight timelines.
To handle the compressed schedule, Cummings accelerated the design process and used prefabricated systems that allowed quick reconfiguration in the field. Close coordination with structural engineers ensured all equipment was safely supported within the existing building framework, helping to avoid delays and added costs.
